Plasma Active Documentation available

Geschrieben von Sascha Manns am Freitag, 02 November 2012 in Documentation

At 15. October a new star is born. The third version of the tablet user experience Plasma Active from the KDE project was born (official announcement: dot.kde.org).

We are enjoying this step forward. The new release gives three new apps to users hand: Files, Books and Addons.

Files is called as ressource browser which uses Strigi and Nepomuk for searching and working with files. With that new app you can store metadata to each file. Also users can use all tags what they like, to find the file again later. But it isn't needed to know where the file is located on the hard disc exactly.

The Books-App is a viewer for electronic books, and it can read PDF, EPub, Open Document and some more. Like the Files-App the Books-App can used touchfriendly and without any menu-bars (like on desktop).

Addons is a interesting feature of that new version. After payless registering into the PlayMakeLive Network you can browse and download thousands of Ebooks. Also you can get new wallpapers for your device.

calibre 0.9.4 packaged for openSUSE

Geschrieben von Sascha Manns am Samstag, 27 Oktober 2012 in Build Service

I'm pleased to announce the new available Ebook-Manager Calibre package 0.9.4 for openSUSE.

New Features

  • Conversion: Add an option to embed a font family into the book.
  • When changing the title/author of a book, use hard links instead of copying the books' files, for a large speedup. Only works on filesystems that support hardlinks.
  • Linux installer: Resume interrupted downloads and verify the SHA-512 signature of the downloaded file before installing it.

Bug Fixes

  • Windows: Check if any of the files of a book are in use before changing the title/author, this prevents the creation of duplicate files if one of the files is open in another program
  • Kobo driver: Fix the ondevice status for some books getting lost.
  • Catalogs: Fix regression that broke use of prefix rules.
  • Tag Browser: Fix sorting incorrect for accented letters
  • Make the bundled Liberation fonts available on all platforms for embedding
  • Use mimetype for fonts from the EPUB 3 specification
  • Get Books: Handle website change that broke the SONY Store plugin
  • Generate cover: If the default font cannot render characters in the metadata (for example for east asian languages) try to automatically find a font on the system that is capable of rendering the characters
  • Fix regression that broke certain types of CSS selectors.
  • Use font-weight:bold instead of font-weight:bolder for the  and  tags as ADE cant handle bolder when embedded fonts are usedWindows: Check if any of the files of a book are in use before changing the title/author, this prevents the creation of duplicate files if one of the files is open in another program
